Potential homeowners must meet three criteria:

  • They must have the need for adequate shelter
  • They must be able to pay the no-interest mortgage
  • They must be willing to develop a part nership with Habitat and complete at  least 200 hours of “sweat equity” and complete 12 homeowner-in-progress classes

To receive an application for homeownership, all prospective home owners must attend a one hour orientation meeting. Please visit our "News & Events" page to find the next scheduled meeting date. At the meeting, homeowners will learn about the application process and how the program works. Homeowner selection is not based on race, religion, marital status, the number of family members, age, or gender.

For more information about how to become a Habitat homeowner send an email to hfhyc@comporium.net or call 803-328-1728. Please visit our "News & Events" page to find the next scheduled meeting date.

Sweat Equity
“Sweat Equity” is the homeowners down payment. It also increases the personal stake of each family
member in their home. There is a strong sense of empowerment in knowing that the home in not a
handout or a gift, but rather something they have earned themselves with the help of a team of caring
friends, family, and others from the community.
