Home Ownership

“All my life I have prayed for a new home, and God and Habitat have made it possible.”
Charlene M., Homeowner

Potential homeowners applying with our affiliate must live OR work in York County for at least 1 year and meet three criteria:

  • You must have the need for decent housing
  • You must have the ability to pay the no-interest mortgage (see income chart)
  • You must be willing to develop a partnership with Habitat and complete at least 250 hours of “sweat equity” and complete 12 homeowner-in-progress classes

Sweat Equity

“Sweat Equity” is the homeowner’s down payment.  It increases the personal stake of each family member in their home.  There is a strong sense of empowerment in knowing that the home in not a handout or a gift, but rather something earned with the help of a team of caring friends, family and volunteers from the community.

To receive an application for home ownership, all prospective homeowners must attend a one hour information session held monthly at our office located at 825 N. Anderson Rd, Rock Hill.  To find out if you income qualify for our program,  download our current income guidelines.   You may review our  information brochure for additional guidelines and monthly meeting times.
